Warm-Up

McG1

Two teams of eight players each are organized into pairs, with each inside one of the four 20×20 yard boxes. There are four boxes in total, all working together. Movement in the middle dictates the first pass. Middle players checks back and then forward to create extra yard to take ball on the back foot. They open up in possession and then pass the ball to person on the opposite side. Both players go at the same time. Players rotate with the players in the box they are working in.

Component One:

McG2

The game is set-up as a 6v6 +4 inside a 30×15 yards area, with a 2v2 in each section. The center back (Black shirt) at the top of the box passes to team in possession and one black shirt also comes in to help create an overload. The team in possession must work through the midfield and transfer the ball to the other side. One player in black links up the play with the middle zone and the other black bib goes into the top box to support. End zone players need to be moving at all times to help keep the move going. 3 touches to start and then the coach can impose or reduce restrictions.

Progression: Impose a 2-touch restriction to help speed the play up and therefore every player is working to press or make angles.

Component Two:

McG3

We now progress to a 7v7 + 2 game where the ball has to be played through one of the floating players (greens) to score. This helps create an overload and therefore when the floaters play to Strikers there is support from the team in possession. 3 touch limit to start.

Progression: Make it 2 touch to help speed the play up and therefore every player is working to press or make angles.
