Below is a pressing training session from California State University, Bakersfield, from the 2014 season.
Our goals for the session were as follows:
1. Quick reactions to losing the ball. Time was not wasted identifying whether we would press or not.
2. Intensity of our work defensively would be high at all times.
3. We don’t simply chase the ball but must also recognize how to press within our system.
4. The principles or defending are not sacrificed for any of the above. Our defending in 1v1 situations must always be high quality and we do not simply ‘gamble’ on winning the ball at all costs.
